January 5, 1981 At 5 am, 6.5 lbs Melanie Hernandez Calumpad was born in Tondo Manila

Everytime 3 year old Melanie would hear her Kuya Melvin sing, she would insist that she sang instead.

In December she had her first public singing engagement for the Civil Service Commission Christmas Party

Melanie had her first taste of major amateur singing contests through Tanghalan ng Kampeon.
First amateur singing contest victory by winning 3rd place in the DZRH Hamon sa Kampeon.

7-week run as champion for Tanghalan ng Kampeon.
In November 14, she became Tanghalan ng Kampeon Grand Champion with the song "I am Changing".

February 19, she joined That's Entertainment (Wednesday Group), then later on became D.A.T.S.

She Represented the Philippines in the 4th Yamaha Song Festival in Japan.

She became Lead-singer for the HEAT OF THE NIGHT Band for 2 years (96-97).
From September 28 to Nov. 30, 1996 The had a 2-month concert series in Brunei.

Had Regular Performances at Kalesa Bar, Hyatt Hotel.
In October she won 3rd place for the Metropop Young Singers Competition with the song "Over the Rainbow"

Released first ever commercial album "Kung Umiibig Na" with Infitiny Records (with Jonard Yanson and Carmela Cuneta now known as Faith). Recorded the original version of "Kung Magkikita Tayong Muli".

In January She recorded the Demo of One More Try for the Metropop Songfest. The song didn't win any award, but it caught the ear of EMI record executives.
Come April 24, Melanie inked a recording contract with EMI Philippines.
July 11, 2000 - Kyla's first album "Way to Your Heart" was released with the first single "Bring it On" followed by her first TV appearance as "Kyla" in ASAP.
In November her second single was released. "Hanggang Ngayon" became Kyla's biggest hit yet.

She interpreted the Himig Handog Grand Prize winner "Tara Tena" written by Jonathan Manalo with V3 and Kaya.
In April Self-titled sophomore album launched at Ratsky with "I Feel For You" as the first single.

Recorded her first foreign collaboration with Malaysian Superstar Ferhad (What More?).
And Recorded her first local collaboration with Gary Valenciano (Let's Stop and Talk A While) in January.
In April 24, she became part of the SOP family as a a regur co-host. Singing for the first time with Regine Velasquez.

February 14, Kyla guest performed with Blue in MTV Asia Awards.
Kyla filled up Music Museum in April 11-12 and gained wide recognition with her first major concert: Kyla: Up Close
May 23, Kyla's third album "I Will Be There" was launched at Hard Rock Café with compositions from Ogie, Janno, Radha and Jamir of SlapShok.
In November 29 she Interpreted at Metropop Song festival. The song was composed by Jonathan Manalo. They one Close Up Most Popular song and The Festival's 3rd place winner.

January 9, Kyla's birthday concert was a sold out in Music Museum entitled "Kyla... Recal".
In May Kyla's senior album "Not Your Ordinary Girl" was released and come October, the album went Gold.
November 12, Kyla filled the Areneta Colliseum with her concert "Not Just Your Ordinary Girl". Tickets were sold out hours before the show started.

Early 2005, Not Your Ordinary Girl album went Platinum and was re-released as special package with additional song Let The love Begin movie theme song of the same title which went gold as well.

In Febuary she had a back to back valentine concert for two nights in Aliw Theater with Jay-r.
She released her 5th album June 3, Beautiful Days with its carrier single Ngayong Wala Ka Na.
